On April 27, 2017, Governor John Bell Edwards commissioned three apprentices to become Crescent Pilots at a ceremony held at the Louisiana State Capitol. Captains Wagner, Crawford and Plaisance were awarded a state pilot commission after completing a year-long apprenticeship. The apprenticeship requires that they work under the supervision of seasoned pilots which provides hands-on experience in facing every possible circumstance a pilot is required to navigate. Their apprenticeship is a grueling year and a process involving the navigation of hundreds of ships.  Each pilot was accepted into the apprenticeship program after completing a considerable amount of advanced education and training. Congratulations are certainly in order to our new pilots.
